SFDanceworks, director James Sofranko
SFDanceworks is a contemporary repertory dance company dedicated to the past, present, and future of dance as an art form through high quality live performance. SFDanceworks aims to present the choreography of dance masters and current established artists, as well as commissioned work.
SFDanceworks was founded in 2014 by James Sofranko, soloist dancer with the San Francisco Ballet. The Inaugural Season (2016) and Season Two (2017) were co-presented with the ODC Theater in San Francisco to sold out houses, and received press coverage on the cover of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Datebook section. In only two years, SFDW has presented works by Lar Lubovitch, Alejandro Cerrudo, Penny Saunders, José Limón, Christopher Bruce, Danielle Rowe, Dana Genshaft, James Graham, and James Sofranko.
Season Three will be June 8-10, 2018 at San Francisco’s Cowell Theater at Ft. Mason Center for Arts and Culture. The season includes Nacho Duato’s masterpiece “Jardi Tancat” as well as a work by Penny Saunders and world premieres from Danielle Rowe and artistic director James Sofranko.

Brett Conway, dancer
A native of Fort Wayne, IN, Brett Conway began his professional career in 2002 where he joined Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet in San Francisco. For eight years he collaborated with Alonzo on numerous original works and toured extensively thought the U.S. and Europe. Brett received an Isadora Duncan Dance Award in 2009 for his performance in King’s, Rasa. In 2010, Brett moved to the Netherlands to join Nederlands Dans Theater 1. While at NDT, Brett had the great privilege to work with choreographers, Jiri Kylian, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon, Mats Ek, Crystal Pite and Ohad Naharin amongst others and perform their work throughout the Netherlands and in some of the most prestigious opera houses around the world. Brett relocated back to San Francisco where he returned to LINES Ballet for the 2015/2016 Season and is now currently a freelance artist and on faculty with the LINES Ballet Educational Programs.
Danielle Rowe, dancer
Born in Adelaide, Australia, Danielle Rowe trained at the Australian Ballet School before joining the Australian Ballet in 2001, where she danced for ten years as a Principal. In 2011, Danielle left Australia to join the Houston Ballet and in 2012 moved again to join the prestigious Nederlands Dans Theater. Rowe has performed in a large variety of works and worked intimately with many acclaimed choreographers, notably Jiri Kylian, Medhi Walerski, Crystal Pite, Wayne McGregor, Paul Lightfoot, Sol Leon and Alexander Eckman. Since moving to San Francisco in July 2015, she has worked with the San Francisco Dance Film Festival dancing in a short film titled Mad Scene 2.0, danced and choreographed for SFDanceworks, DanceFAR and choreographed for Diablo Ballet and Berkeley Ballet Theater.
